Rector of Cherkasy Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University Oleksandr Cherevko took part in the international project "Abroad: dialogue with the heads of leading educational institutions of the world" founded by the president of City University of Hong Kong, professor Way Kuo.

Rector Oleksandr Cherevko joined in this project as the guest of honor for interviews about higher education in Ukraine and around the world. This interview is one of a series of interviews about higher education with senior officials of the universities from all over the world.

The aim of this project is to introduce the wisdom of outstanding educators and top university leaders around the world through interviews on a range of education-related topics for the sake of sharing best practices, expert views and ideas with a view to enriching and improving higher education, as universities continue to fulfill their role in cultivating talented people, creating and expanding new knowledge and contributing to the development of society. More than a dozen presidents of higher education institutions have already taken part in this project, which has caused lively discussions on interesting topics.

During the interview, the following issues were discussed: about the traditions of the University and its achievements; post-war plans and further development of the University; about the opportunities of attracting foreign students and scientists to return to Ukraine after the war; about the help to the University which is needed in the long term; about the protection of academic freedom in the context of war; about the prospects for international cooperation; about the unique features of the University; about the present-day University in the world that was changed by the war in the XXI century.

President Way Kuo said, addressing Rector Oleksandr Cherevko: "Cherkasy Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University is one of the key Ukrainian centers of education, science, culture and spirituality. Under your authority, the University occupies a leading position among educational institutions in the region, contributing to the development of science and economy in the region. You are an experienced decisionmaker who knows both the European and international spheres of higher education. I believe that your vision and understanding of university development in the 21st century will be of great value to other educators, as well as to the general public interested in education."
