About the Center
The Mental Health Research and Training Center at Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy was established on May 14, 2024.
Its strategic goal is not only to ensure the high-quality training of competitive professionals but also to create the necessary conditions that promote a culture of caring for mental health.
The university’s educational service policy has always centered on the individual—not only students but also university faculty and staff.
To ensure smooth and effective operations at all levels, it’s essential to develop a system that fosters professional self-improvement among participants in the educational process and equips them with the skills to timely monitor and care for their psychological well-being.
Thus, the creation of the Mental Health Research and Training Center is a necessary step reflecting the university’s tradition of caring for the comprehensive development and comfort of students, faculty, and staff.
Within its activities, the center’s psychologists conduct various events aimed at:
- Nurturing mental health, harmonious development, and self-actualization of participants in the educational process;
- Organizing efforts to overcome stigmatization and self-stigmatization;
- Implementing educational initiatives to spread knowledge among participants in the educational process and residents of Cherkasy in the field of mental health care, among others.
Key areas of the center’s work include:
- Research activities (diagnosing the psycho-emotional state of higher education students, faculty, and university staff; studying factors affecting stress resilience; developing methodological materials and recommendations for maintaining individual mental health, etc.);
- Organizing educational events (open lectures, courses, seminars) to address current topics in psychology;
- Providing free individual consultations to participants in the educational process;
- Organizing and conducting training, psychocorrectional groups, and art therapy sessions.
The center actively participates in projects within the framework of the All-Ukrainian Mental Health Program “How Are You?” initiated by First Lady Olena Zelenska.
It collaborates with the Cherkasy Regional State Administration and the regional coordinator of the All-Ukrainian Mental Health Program, advisor to the head of the Cherkasy Regional State Administration—Viktoriia Shepil.
The center’s activities were successfully presented during a working visit to the Cherkasy region by representatives of the Coordination Center for Mental Health of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, led by Oksana Zbitnieva, and 20 regional coordinators of the All-Ukrainian Mental Health Program from all regions of Ukraine.
Additionally, at a working meeting of the Coordination Center for Mental Health for representatives of higher education institutions, Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy was one of three universities in Ukraine to present its experience in implementing the mental health component into the educational process.
We invite you to the therapeutic space of the Mental Health Research and Training Center at Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy!
