On May 16, traditionally on Vyshyvanka Day, the 8th International Scientific and Practical Internet Conference titled “Tourism and Hospitality: Status, Problems, Prospects” was conducted at Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy.

It was attended by scientists from Great Britain, the Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Romania, and Moldova. The Ukrainian scientific community was represented at the conference by Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Central Ukrainian National Technical University, (Kropyvnytskyi), National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University, Poltava University of Economics and Trade, Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics, etc. For the department, the conference is a traditional form of discussion of topical issues of the development of tourism and the hotel and restaurant industry.

Professor Stanislava Pasieka, Head of the Department of Tourism, Hotel and Restaurant Business, who welcomed the conference participants, Oleksandr Spriahailo, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Innovation Activities, Mykola Rudenko, Director of the Educational-Scientific Institute of Economics and Law, Professor ‪Marta Malska, Professor Maryna Semykina gave a welcoming speech. All of them emphasized the importance and relevance of the problems of hospitality in Ukraine amidst the state of war, the powerful tourist resources of Ukraine and Cherkasy region, which contribute to the development and popularization of tourism in the region.

Foreign participants took part in the plenary session of the conference: Dr. Peter Vlahos, Head of the International Relations Programme of the School of Management and Marketing of the Faculty of Business of the University of Greenwich (London, Great Britain), Oksana Polyakova, Associate Professor of the Department of Applied Linguistics of the Polytechnic University of València (UPV), València, Spain, PhD in Applied Linguistics.

The video greeting was sent by Dr. Petr Studnička, Head of the Department of Hospitality Management, in charge of the Department of Tourism at the University College Prague (Prague, Czech Republic). The guests emphasized the importance of international cooperation for Ukrainian educational institutions and scientists in particular. At the plenary session, particularly interesting reports were given by Professor Oleksandr Beydyk (Bohdan Khmelnytsky Melitopol State Pedagogical University), Associate Professor Mykhailo Rutynskyi from the Central Ukrainian National Technical University, (Kropyvnytskyi), Professor Tetiana Kostyshyna (Poltava University of Economics and Trade), Professor Volodymyr Yatsenko (Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy). In total, more than 60 participants from Ukraine and European countries took part in the conference, including professors, associate professors, postgraduate students and applicants. Associate Professor Viktoriia Krasnomovets acted as a moderator.

Great gratitude is extended to the colleagues for the opportunity to discuss important issues of the development of tourism and the hospitality industry despite these challenging times. A collection of conference abstracts will be published based on the conference’s outcomes.
