First-year bachelor’s student and Chair of the Student Council of the Educational-Scientific Institute of International Relations, History and Philosophy at Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy, Kateryna Imamai, received a diploma in the All-Ukrainian Student Professional Creative Competition in the field of gender studies.
The competition culminated in a scientific and practical conference held on 6 May 2026 at Volodymyr Vynnychenko Central Ukrainian State University. According to the decision of the jury, the student was among the winners and received a third-degree diploma.
The competition was held in two stages. Fifty-eight participants were selected and admitted to the first stage, while only the top twenty advanced to the second stage. Kateryna Imamai was among those finalists. The topic of her scientific research was “Ukrainian Cultural Heritage in the Worldview Projects of Tetiana Stanieva: The Gender Dimension of Cultural Leadership.” The study was conducted at our university’s Centre for Gender Studies and Communications, in line with the department’s main research focus – shaping the social and mental portrait of Ukrainian women.
The originality of Kateryna Imamai’s research idea lay in the fact that, unlike most traditional and even recent academic studies, which are usually focused on outstanding figures of the past (an equally important area of research), the young researcher identified and analysed the multifaceted achievements of our contemporary, Tetiana Stanieva, a representative of the Bulgarian national minority – a cultural figure, organiser of large-scale events, director, producer, and local historian. Kateryna attempted, and quite successfully, to trace and comprehensively evaluate Tetiana Stanieva’s specific accomplishments and her potential, which until now had remained insufficiently explored and utilised.
The competition project was supervised by Professors Natalka Zemziulina and Yurii Prysiazhniuk. In their opinion, the contestant’s main achievement was a significant broadening of knowledge about the multi-ethnic cultural space of Ukraine. They referred to a unique world that still holds many hidden opportunities and internal resources for understanding national identity, strengthening security policy, and revitalising nation-building processes. The supervisors also highlighted the student’s ability to express competent opinions clearly and consistently, as well as to conduct discussions skilfully.
We congratulate Kateryna Imamai on this significant achievement!
