The teaching staff of Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy continues to confirm its high professional level, including through academic publications in recognised international journals. In particular, this November Taras Romashchenko – Associate Professor of the Department of Economics and International Economic Relations – became one of the authors of Forced Migration Review (Issue 74), a journal published by the Refugee Studies Centre and the Department of International Development at Oxford University.

“A paper published in Oxford entitled “Reverse remittances as a new normal for Ukraine: evidence from Germany and Austria” contains preliminary results of my qualitative research that directly addresses Ukrainian forced migrants during the war. The article analyses the relatively new phenomenon of reverse remittances in Ukraine. Prior to the full-scale invasion, our country was traditionally considered a net recipient of remittances from labour migrants. In the context of the war, this trend has reversed, as the NBU alone estimates that Ukrainian refugees in host countries spend monthly billions of dollars/euros earned or saved previously in Ukraine.

During semi-structured interviews with Ukrainian forced migrants in Germany and Austria, I managed to get answers to a number of questions related to reverse remittances, and based on them, formulate appropriate recommendations for all parties involved,” said Taras Romashchenko.

The publication in the journal of the world's leading university gives us good reason to hope for the widest possible global dissemination of the research results. This will be facilitated not only by the 40-year history of FMR, which is one of the most recognisable in its field. Forced Migration Review is published in paper and electronic form (Open Access), and is actively promoted in general and by article among the interested academic community on social media and beyond. In addition, each issue is published separately in one of four languages: English, Spanish, French and Arabic.

According to Taras Romashchenko, his article in Forced Migration Review 74 has already been sent to the BKNUC repository for consideration. After approval, it will be possible to read it through the electronic resources of M. Maksymovych Scientific Library.
