In July, Associate Professor Veronika Hanechko and Lecturer Nataliia Diachenko, who work at the Department of German Philology at Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy, took part in a professional development seminar for German language lecturers organized by the Goethe-Institute in Bremen (Germany).

The theme of the seminar was “Methodology and Didactics of Teaching the German Language to Youth and Adults”. Participation in this educational event was made possible by the scholarship received from the Goethe-Institute in Kyiv.

For almost two weeks, lecturers attended classes where they got acquainted with modern trends in German language teaching and consolidated new knowledge by performing practical tasks in the form of group and project work with other seminar participants.

In total, more than 20 teachers and lecturers of the German language from Europe, Africa, and Asia took part in the educational event.

The main feature of the modern approach to teaching foreign languages is the maximum rejection of the frontal organization of classes and the predominant use of other educational forms: pair, group and project work with the extensive application of modern technologies, including artificial intelligence. One of the key principles is that the achievement of the educational goal is possible only if the individual characteristics of pupils/students are taken into account.

In addition to educational activities, an integral part of the seminar was a rich cultural program: tours of the city of Bremen, visits to local museums and libraries. The lecturers of the Educational-Scientific Institute of Foreign Languages express their gratitude to the Goethe-Institute for the awarded scholarship, which allowed them to deepen their professional knowledge and get acquainted with the cultural diversity of the world.

Special thanks are extended for the solidarity with Ukraine.
