The Department of Primary and Special Education of Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy continues to create opportunities for professional growth and exchange of experience at the international level.

On June 18, 2025, an international guest lecture “Therapy Dog – A Reliable Assistant in Speech Therapy Work with Children” took place.

The speaker was Laura Hardalau, an experienced speech therapist from Romania, author of over 20 speech therapy books and games, founder of the “Talking Toys” brand.

The lecture participants learnt about modern approaches to speech therapy, the role of animals in correctional work, and how the presence of a dog can stimulate speech development, enhance learning motivation, reduce anxiety, and improve communication skills in children.

The star of the meeting was the therapy dog Adam – a four-legged assistant in speech therapy. Ms. Laura spoke in detail about Adam’s training as a therapy dog, the specifics of his participation in speech therapy sessions, and the positive changes that occur in children due to this interaction format.

The lecture brought together participants from over 30 educational institutions across various regions of Ukraine. Attendees actively asked questions and joined the discussion.

This meeting marked another step towards forming a modern and effective system of speech therapy support for children.

“We sincerely thank Ms. Laura for the inspiring lecture, her professionalism, and the warm atmosphere. We look forward to further cooperation! We are truly delighted to have the opportunity to introduce our students and colleagues to leading European experts in the field of special education,” noted Tetiana Zorochkina, Head of the Department of Primary and Special Education.
