Despite the tangible turbulence in the global political space regarding the unjust war in Ukraine, the international academic environment around this painful topic is stable and sincere in its support for our country. As a result, a number of events were held at leading universities in Europe and globally to mark the third anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by its aggressive neighbour with a painful imperial syndrome.

Taras Romashchenko – Associate Professor at the Department of Economics and International Economic Relations – was invited as keynote speaker at one such event at the University of Warwick (UK).

“In early February, I received an invitation from my British colleagues to be one of two speakers on the occasion of the tragic events that took place in our country three years ago. The webinar with the eloquent title “Three Years On: Global Ukrainians and Their Transnational Engagement with Ukraine” was initiated by the Centre for Studies in Democratisation at the University of Warwick. I was joined by a distinguished researcher of the Ukrainian diaspora Maria Koinova – Professor at Warwick’s Politics and International Studies Department,” said Taras Romashchenko.

At the joint British-Ukrainian event, the participants discussed the diaspora's political, economic and social contribution to Ukraine's recovery, its democratic activism, reverse remittances, prospects for the return of Ukrainian forced migrants, and new trends in interaction with the ethnic homeland in a changing global landscape.

According to Taras Romashchenko, the meeting was chaired by Professor Michael Saward – Head of the Centre for Studies in Democratisation and a renowned British and Australian scholar. Under his chairmanship, not only the presentations of the speakers, but also Q&A session with the virtual international audience were smooth and insightful.
