Daria Zakrepa, a student at Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy, represented Ukraine at an international Erasmus+ seminar dedicated to a topical issue – the voting rights of foreign nationals.

The event took place in Strasbourg.

Democracy, integration, and active citizenship were the key values that brought together young people from different European countries. The participants explored ways to make democratic processes more inclusive and ensure that everyone’s voice is heard, regardless of their country of origin.

As part of the project, the participants also visited the European Court of Human Rights, one of the most important international judicial bodies, which safeguards human rights and fundamental freedoms under the European Convention on Human Rights. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to learn more about the Court’s work and its role in strengthening democracy and the rule of law, as well as protecting the rights of millions of people across the member states of the Council of Europe.

This seminar is just the beginning. Upon returning to Ukraine, the third-year student majoring in Social Work and Counselling (specialty 231) will bring back not only new knowledge, inspiration, and valuable contacts from across Europe but also concrete ideas for future projects. The experience gained will help her implement youth initiatives, strengthen civic engagement, and contribute to positive change in her communities.
