On April 23–24, Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy welcomed a distinguished guest, Doctor of Science, Professor at the University of Miami (Oxford, Ohio, the USA), Marcus Jobe.The visit of the renowned American scholar was a remarkable event for the university community and contributed to the expansion of BKNUC’s international ties.

Professor Jobe met with Rector Oleksandr Cherevko and the university administration. During the meeting, prospects for future cooperation, including the possibility of participating in joint Ukrainian-American research projects, were discussed. The participants of the meeting also touched upon the role of statistics in modern society and in education.

“I had a meeting with Marcus Jobe – Doctor of Science, Professor at the University of Miami. His main area of expertise is information systems and analysis. Mr. Jobe has extensive experience working at the Farmer School of Business, and has also provided consulting and training services to companies such as General Electric, Procter & Gamble, NASA-Lewis Research Center, Westinghouse. He teaches the relevant courses, namely, ‘Business Statistics’ and ‘Quality Control’,” Rector Oleksandr Cherevko noted.

During the visit, Professor Jobe delivered three guest lectures to students of Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy.

On April 23, a lecture on the topic “Statistical Methods / Quality Management” was delivered to students of the first (bachelor’s) level of education of the Educational-Scientific Institute of Economics and Law (specialties: Management, Marketing, Public Management and Administration, Economics and Business Modelling) and the Educational-Scientific Institute of Informational and Educational Technologies (specialties: Secondary Education (Mathematics), Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics and Nanomaterials, Information Systems and Technologies).

First Vice-Rector Vasyl Moisiienko addressed the participants with an introductory speech:

“I am pleased to welcome Marcus Jobe, Doctor of Science, Professor at the University of Miami, to our university. This is not the first time Marcus has visited our institution. Last year, we agreed that in 2025 he would give a series of lectures to students of various institutions. His professional activities include statistics, management processes, quality assurance in education, and the promotion of Christian values ​​among youth.”

The lecture sparked keen interest among the students.

The professor also shared his own experience in consulting international corporations and emphasized:

“I am deeply grateful that you invited me to your university here in Ukraine. It is an honour to have the opportunity to speak to the brightest, most intelligent nation.”

The students learnt about the American experience in product quality assurance, in particular the quality control methods introduced by Edwards Deming.

On April 24, Professor Jobe met with students of the Educational-Scientific Institute of International Relations, History and Philosophy and gave a lecture on the topic “Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation”, in which he combined historical and religious studies approaches to the study of the Reformation and Protestantism, their significance in history. The proposed topic aroused considerable interest among the audience. Attendees asked relevant and meaningful questions regarding the future of religion in the postmodern world and possible solutions that the church could offer to solve the global problems of humanity.

On the same day, the professor delivered a lecture to students of the Educational-Scientific Institute of Foreign Languages ​​(specialties: Secondary Education (English Language and Literature) and Philology (Germanic Languages ​​and Literatures, (Translation Included), First Language – English)) on the topic “Intercultural Communication”, emphasizing the role of the language barrier, cultural codes, and global communication trends in the modern world. Students had a unique opportunity to communicate directly with a native speaker and learn more about the features of the American higher education system.

Professor Marcus Jobe’s visit demonstrated the interest of international scholars in collaborating with Ukrainian universities and reaffirmed the high level of academic dialogue that prevails at Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy.
