Representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland visited Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy.

The delegation included Paweł Owad, Head of the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Ukraine, and Vice-Consul Anna Owad-Babiak. The Head of the Karol Szymanowski Cultural Center, Hennadii Linevych, who is a longstanding and reliable partner of the university, also joined the conversation.

The guests honoured the memory of those who died in the Russian-Ukrainian war and familiarized themselves with the university’s facilities for training Polish language teachers.

They visited the Polish Cultural Room, where students of the Educational-Scientific Institute of Foreign Languages ​​study, particularly those enrolled in the educational program “Polish Language. Translation and Intercultural Communication”.

University Rector Oleksandr Cherevko provided information about the Polish-Ukrainian cooperation carried out at Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy. He spoke about educational and scientific collaboration as well as cultural projects. He emphasized the sustainability of these partnership relations.

In turn, Liliia Potapenko, Director of the BKNUC Centrum Polonijne, presented the Centrum’s educational activities and intercultural engagement. A pleasant moment was the guests’ interaction with the students who recited Polish poetry. The diplomats gladly answered their questions.

Together with Rector Oleksandr Cherevko, Director of the Educational-Scientific Institute of Foreign Languages ​​Liudmyla Shvydka, Head of the Department Larysa Kornovenko, and Director of the Centrum Polonijne Liliia Potapenko, further joint steps were discussed. The guests expressed interest in launching educational programs that would allow teachers in the Cherkasy region to enhance their qualifications and undergo retraining at Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy.

Oleksandr Cherevko stated:

“I am grateful to the Consul General and the Vice-Consul for attaching such importance to the educational component. We have had long-lasting, stable cooperation with our Polish partners. I am convinced that it is beneficial both for society and for the Cherkasy community. We are ready to support Polish language teachers working in Cherkasy schools, given the growing interest of pupils in learning Polish and the need to develop methodological resources.

My special thanks go to Hennadii Linevych. We constantly hold events that preserve and promote the Polish historical heritage in Ukraine and strengthen good neighbourly relations between our peoples.”

Paweł Owad, Head of the Consular Section, shared his impressions and vision:

“The University and the city of Cherkasy have great potential. I see a sincere interest in Poland, Polish culture, and the Polish language. Here, our interests coincide – we can work together to promote Polish culture and language in Cherkasy and the region. We appreciate how dedicated you are to educating students. From our side, we can offer certain support and assistance to make this work even more effective.”

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue working on expanding joint educational and cultural programs between Cherkasy and partner institutions of the Republic of Poland.

At the end of the visit, the guests also toured the “Museum of the Ukrainian Rushnyk (Embroidered Towel)” and visited the student television studio, expressing high appreciation for the versatility of the university’s activities.
