Within the framework of the associate partnership between Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy and the European University Alliance E³UDRES², as well as close cooperation with Old Dominion University (USA) and at the initiative of the International Relations Office, a 10-week distance learning course “Ukrainian Language, Culture, and History” was launched in October 2025 for students and staff of partner institutions.

The course was designed and is taught by Anzhela Irzhavska, Associate Professor at the Department of World History and International Relations. The course attracted students from Old Dominion University (USA) and staff members of the Polytechnic University of Setúbal (Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal, Portugal).

The distance learning course is aimed at introducing international students and lecturers to the Ukrainian language, history, culture, traditions, and customs, with a particular emphasis on the beginner level (A1) of language proficiency. The course “Ukrainian Language, Culture, and History” seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of Ukraine; outline the key features of Ukraine’s historical development from ancient times to the present; familiarise participants with diverse folk, literary, and musical traditions of Ukraine; highlight how culture contributes to shaping Ukrainian national identity and resilience; develop basic communication skills in Ukrainian; and equip learners with the linguistic tools necessary for interacting in real-life situations.

The course is free of charge and conducted fully online, ensuring flexibility and accessibility for all participants. Upon completion, learners will receive a certificate indicating the number of hours completed and the corresponding ECTS credits.
