Today, the two-day All-Ukrainian Multi-Genre Dance Championship “ChNU Rector’s Cup” has concluded at Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy.
“Dance your story of victory” was its slogan.
This is a youth and children’s championship aimed at the development of youth and the popularization of the educational programme “Choreography”.
Although the Department of Educational Management, Art Management, and Social Work at the university has been preparing students under this educational programme for only the second year, the “Rector’s Cup”, its mass and scale indicate that the specialty has great prospects and that the championship has already become a tradition, necessary for both the university and the artistic community.
BKNUC Rector Oleksandr Cherevko noted:
“Nowadays, there is a lot of talk in society about preserving and restoring mental health. And we are setting an example of how to achieve this by holding such events.
The championship also has a charitable mission, because it is the Armed Forces of Ukraine on whom the country now relies.
About 1,500 dancers competed for the “ChNU Rector’s Cup” in various genres – from folk dance to ballroom and sports dance. It is important that we gave this opportunity to residents from the front-line Kharkiv region and Kharkiv, as well as Dnipro and the Dnipropetrovsk region, the Kirovohrad region. And of course, we warmly welcomed contestants from all over Ukraine and the Cherkasy region.
It is impressive how talented Ukrainian youth are – continuing to work on themselves, train, and develop even in wartime conditions.
I would like to thank the organisers of the event – the staff of the Educational-Scientific Institute of Pedagogical Education, Social Work and Art and its Acting Director Valentyna Movchan, the Department of Educational Management, Art Management, and Social Work and its Head Viktoriia Bilyk, lecturers Vadym Tkachenko, Oleksandr Tsviachka, university staff and students, and the tournament’s panel of judges – for the opportunity to be together, for their faith in Ukraine and in Ukrainians. All our participants are the best, regardless of the competition results. Unfortunately, the war continues, this day has become another day of mourning for us. At the closing of the championship, a minute of silence was observed to honour those who died today in Sumy…”
As Vadym Tkachenko, the initiator and one of the organisers of the championship, said, “at one time, the university’s rector initiated the introduction of the specialty “Choreography”. It is logical that we decided to hold a dance championship and called it the “Rector’s Cup”.
This year we did not expect such a large number of participants, last year there were three times fewer. A big factor was that, thanks to the “ChNU Rector’s Cup 2024”, parents and participants got acquainted with the material and technical base of BKNUC. The competition is held at a high standard. Our students decorated the halls and helped to hold the competitions. We have very professional judges, among them are honoured figures of art and culture, world and Ukrainian champions. By the way, our students at this championship act as judges, contestants, and coaches.”
All participants of the competition were awarded with diplomas and cups. The Grand Prix of the “ChNU Rector’s Cup” in the nomination “The Most Numerous Dance Ensemble” was awarded to dancers from the professional choreography studio “Yurii Rudenko Dance Academy” (Chyhyryn) and the dance studio “Step Forward” (Cherkasy).
In the nomination “The Most Successful Dance Club” the Rector’s Grand Prix was won by the participants of the ballroom dance collective “Alians” (Shakhtarsk, the Dnipropetrovsk region) and the dance club “Viktoriia” (Cherkasy).
The Grand Prix from the panel of judges was awarded to the People’s Artistic Ensemble of Folk Dance “Veselka” (Cherkasy).
