The Rector of Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy, Oleksandr Cherevko, took part in the opening of the Centre of Polish and Ukrainian Studies at the invitation of a German university with a long history – European University Viadrina (Frankfurt an der Oder).

During the working trip, fruitful meetings were held with the university management, in particular, with President Eduard Mühle and Vice-President Dagmara Jajeśniak-Quast, and the memorandum of cooperation between BKNUC and European University Viadrina was signed.

Oleksandr Cherevko joined the celebrations dedicated to the opening of the Centre of Polish and Ukrainian Studies together with his Ukrainian colleagues – Volodymyr Bugrov, the Rector of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and Igor Tsependa, the Rector of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University.

The meeting with Oleksii Makeiev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Germany, was fruitful.

— Such communication opens up new opportunities and horizons. First of all, in the context of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. This requires the transformation of the educational process in the field of studying law, international economy, and international relations. The issue of history and cultural-historical ties between Ukraine and Poland, Ukraine and Germany is important. The issue of decolonization in Ukraine will not end with the renaming of streets. A rethinking of history is necessary to get rid of the Moscow view of our past that has been imposed on us for the past 300 years. It is through such visits that the content of the Concept of Innovative Transformation of Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy, on which my team is currently working, appears, – noted the Rector of the university, Oleksandr Cherevko.
