On September 25, the Rector of Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy, Oleksandr Cherevko, took part in an extended meeting of the public organization “Union of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions of Ukraine”.

This platform has traditionally served as a space for strategic dialogue between the heads of leading higher education institutions, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the State Service of Education Quality, the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance, and Members of Parliament.

The main topics of discussion included the results of the 2025 admission campaign, a detailed review of the new admission regulations, and the issue of the functioning of universities under martial law. The participants jointly explored ways to ensure the stability and quality of the educational process and discussed mechanisms for increasing the salaries of academic and teaching staff.

In his speech, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Mykola Trofymenko proposed transforming the Union of Rectors into a modern, institutionally strong association of universities. The idea is to grant this representative body clear powers to exert a real influence on higher education policy. This would allow the university community not only to comment on changes but also to directly participate in their implementation, particularly, in developing expert conclusions for the Ministry of Education and Science, creating standards, approaches to the funding formula, and accreditation procedures.

Rector Oleksandr Cherevko emphasized the importance of such a dialogue for Ukrainian higher education:

“I am grateful to my colleagues for the meaningful discussion and to the organizers for providing a high-quality platform for joint work. This is the key to the successful development of the national education system as a whole. Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy fully supports the course towards systematic development and the strengthening of the universities’ role in shaping education policy. I believe that by uniting our efforts, we can build an education system that will not only attract Ukrainians to study at home but also provide them with clear development paths and opportunities for successful self-realization in Ukraine,” noted Oleksandr Volodymyrovych.
