On September 20, the global environmental campaign called “World Cleanup Day” takes place all over the world. In Ukraine, the campaign is held in 21 regions under the slogan “Let’s Make Ukraine Clean Together!”
The event is organized by the All-Ukrainian Youth Movement Let’s Do It Ukraine in collaboration with the international movement Let’s Do It World and the international youth movement School Recycling World.
On this occasion, at the initiative of the Student Council of the Educational-Scientific Institute of Natural and Agrarian Sciences, a cleanup event was held in the Botanical Garden of Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy. Students from the Institute of Natural Sciences along with the Student Council of the university, led by the Director of the Educational-Scientific Institute of Natural and Agrarian Sciences Maksym Havryliuk, assisted the staff of the Botanical Garden – they helped to remove unwanted branches and eliminate invasive plants. As the Director of the Botanical Garden, Valentyn Mykolaiets, explained to the students, unwanted plants, such as Phytolacca americana (American pokeweed), Humulus lupulus (common hop), Ailanthus altissima (tree of heaven), Acer negundo (boxelder maple), and others, pose a threat to the survival of many plants in the collection of the botanical garden. Therefore, under such circumstances, they need to be removed.
The main goal of the event worldwide is to foster a culture of cleanliness, proper waste management, and responsible consumption among citizens, as well as to unite efforts for a sustainable environmental future. Therefore, we call on everyone to make daily efforts to protect the environment for the sake of the future!
