Students of the Educational-Scientific Institute of Informational and Educational Technologies at Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy – Diana Bondarenko, a first-year master’s student majoring in “Secondary Education (Physics and Astronomy)”; Bohdan Moskalenko, a second-year bachelor’s student majoring in “Secondary Education (Computer Science)”; and Vitalina Rokhman, a first-year bachelor’s student majoring in “Secondary Education (Mathematics)” – have successfully completed the open synchronous online course “Introduction to AI in Education: Design, Teaching, and Assessment”, organised by the partner institution, Old Dominion University (Norfolk, Virginia, USA).

The programme, which ran from April to May of this year, was aimed at exploring the potential of generative artificial intelligence to organise and support the educational process. Specifically, it covered course content planning, designing methodological approaches to teaching and assessment, as well as developing informed decision-making skills in pedagogical activities. Crucially, the course emphasised the didactically sound application of innovative practices rather than technical aspects, enabling future teachers to integrate digital technologies into teaching responsibly and professionally. As Diana Bondarenko noted:

“For me, this course was an opportunity to see how artificial intelligence can be not only a tool but also a partner in educational activity.”

The participants from Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy demonstrated high levels of engagement, actively taking part in discussions and practical tasks, which was highly praised by the course instructors. As a result of their training, they received certificates of successful completion of the programme, confirming their readiness to implement modern educational innovations in their own teaching practices.

Notably, in the modern educational process, artificial intelligence serves as a tool for expanding teaching and learning capabilities, providing personalised educational pathways, rapid feedback, and data-driven decision support. Accordingly, the experience gained from the online course “Introduction to AI in Education: Design, Teaching, and Assessment” is an important step in implementing the university’s strategic goals, since preparing a new generation of educators capable of responsibly integrating AI solutions into the educational process is a key requirement for the development of modern education. BKNUC graduates, who possess the skills for methodically sound application of innovations, will be able to shape the digital competence of pupils and students, facilitate the integration of Ukrainian education into the global scientific and educational space, and ensure the high-quality transformation of education in line with the challenges of the 21st century.
