On February 6, 2026, Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy celebrated its 105th anniversary.
“Today, Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy marks its 105th anniversary. Of course, our joy is overshadowed by the war, so there will be no large-scale celebrations. We are simply observing this date with those for whom it matters, united across distance and time, through memories and hope,” said Acting Rector Oleksandr Cherevko. “105 years is a truly significant milestone. Thousands of alumni, different destinies, different life stories. And, unfortunately, two wars. One is already in history textbooks; the other is still ongoing, taking away the best, depriving us of light, warmth, and other basic necessities. But it cannot take away our hope. Because, just as 105 years ago, the future of Ukraine is studying here – young people. We have a highly professional academic staff, we are free and independent, we love our land and defend it,” Rector emphasised.
Under conditions of the full-scale war, the university’s priorities have changed. Today, the main focus is supporting the front and helping the defenders of Ukraine. Among those who defend the country’s independence on the front lines are BKNUC students and their families, as well as the university’s staff and alumni.
University graduates fondly remember their alma mater, their student years, their first steps into adulthood and professional life. This dedication and memory are the best evidence that the university is successfully fulfilling its mission.
Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy has grown from a small institute with three departments into a powerful educational centre. Today, it comprises 8 educational-scientific institutes, 2 faculties, and has more than 100,000 alumni throughout its history.
